Any firm development proposals for East Kilbride Showpark must also protect this popular greenspace, say local Greens. Whilst improvements to EK Thistle grounds and facilities for the EK Show are long awaited and to be welcomed, greenspace should also be kept for local people to enjoy.
South Lanarkshire Green's Kirsten Robb, said
"If South Lanarkshire Council are indeed delighted by this plan, as is rumoured, I would be very worried as this is the only decent greenspace left in The Village. The plans as presented do not seem to protect the park for walkers, dog walkers and children and families having a kick about at the weekend.
The local plan identifies The Showpark as a valuable green space, not an opportunity for get-rich-quick developers. I am sure the EK Cattle Society, EK Thistle and the council can work together with local people to produce a plan which will improve the site for all to enjoy."
