EK Schools celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight with local Green Candidate
By: South
Lanarkshire Green Party
Date: 6th March 2007

Green candidate for Central
Scotland, Kirsten Robb, is to help present
the prizes in a schools' poster and poetry competition as part of
West
Kirk's Fairtrade Fortnight celebration. Kirsten, who set up the
East
Kilbride Fairtrade Town project and worked on a housing project
in
Tanzania, has urged EK residents to come along and join the fun
this
Saturday, the 10th of March. Kirsten will be joined by Dave Fish
from
the East Kilbride-based Department for International Development.
Kirsten said: "Fairtrade has already made
a massive difference to so
many lives in the developing world, and Scotland has definitely
been
doing its bit with three-quarters of Scots buying fairtrade. But
there's always more to do, and one big step we could take locally
is
to make East Kilbride a Fairtrade town. If people want to join in
the
project to do that, they can come along to West Kirk on Saturday
or
contact the EK Fairtrade Group on 07969 714996 or
ekfairtrade@yahoo.co.uk."
The prize giving will take place at 11.30am
this Saturday, 10th March,
at the West Kirk, Kittoch Street, East Kilbride. The Fairtrade event,
starting at 10am, will include, along with the poster and poetry
competition, stalls showcasing trade and development issues and
selling fairtrade goods, and fairtrade refreshments.
